Illinois Nurse Assistant Competency Exam (INACE)
Nursing assistants/aides working in licensed and or certified skilled nursing facilities, intermediate care facilities and home health agencies must be certified. Certification is achieved primarily by successfully completing a state-approved nursing assistant training program, a competency test covering 21 mandated manual skills and a written competency test.

An individual has 12 months from their date of program completion to successfully complete the competency exam. They are able to test three times. If a student is a “no show” for a scheduled administration, it does not count against the student. At the conclusion of a student’s test administration, there is a 3-day waiting period before they will receive unofficial results of the test. The official results of the previous weeks testing will be uploaded on the following Monday.
